Oregon VFW hosts First Friday open mic

By Will Tallman

On the first Friday of every month, the Oregon VFW invites musicians to showcase their talent underneath the lights of the local stage.

This open mic is promoted as an all-ages event, which allows local music fans the chance to check out a variety of musical styles, ranging from bluegrass, country, folk, and blues, and many other styles from a variety of performers.

In addition to local entertainment, the venue also offers food, door prizes, and a 50/50 raffle.

Local musicians simply have to sign up on arrival at the venue and wait for their name to be called, and then have the opportunity to share their music in a friendly and supportive atmosphere with fellow artists and fans.

There is no entry fee for performers, though a donation jar is available for those who wish to support the musical acts performing that evening.

It is primarily an acoustic performance, though artists are offered the chance to play through a professional P.A. system manned by experienced engineer Mike Bratt.

Located at 1310 W. Washington Street, the open mic has been a popular staple in local nightlife for nearly ten years running.

Musicians who are interested in playing can contact the VFW hall at (815) 449-2660, as well as on Facebook.
